Day 30 of #Recovery: #Detroit #Love. As cliché as the statement “if you can make it out of here, you can make it anywhere” sounds, it feels like it was a phrase custom made for #Detroiters. There’s NO PLACE like Detroit. I wouldn’t have wanted to be raised anywhere else on the planet. Although there’s a lot of #depression there, there’s even more to be proud of. I love watching and hearing about all of the new developments in my city, it’s an ongoing hope like none other. From the #Music, to the #Art, to the #Historical Neighborhoods, to the people, it’s a great city. Maybe it’s not as big of a host to #Celebrities, #Money, and #Entertainment as a lot of other cities, but that’s part of it’s greatness; it’s a city that breeds #Hustlers & #GoGetters. So, this one is my dedication to my city… a self-portrait of my city and me. I hope you enjoy.
Day 21 of #Recovery: #BLANKSTARE What will we do when/if technology ends? There’s a little bit of irony in this piece, seeing how my work is being displayed via internet. However, I still question it, “What will we do when/if technology ends?”. I can almost surely say that more than 80% of the people in the world invest most of their day on technical devices. From #VideoGames, to our #CellPhones, to #Computers, to #Television, and on and on… #Technology has become somewhat of a #ghostly figure of #worship. We have become a generation that lives by it, like #Zombies. While this is all a part of #evolution, don’t forget, #God is still the reason for it all. He deserves some of that daily investment. Just write yourself a reminder to thank him everyday. I say #Alhamdulillah (All Praise and Thanks to God), some say #ThankGod, #PraiseJesus, some praise #Jehovah; what I’m saying is, whatever your faith is, just don’t let technology detour you from it. Remember, we live in a world with a system, a system that operates exactly how they want it to, and we subconsciously fall right into it, every time. Just stay aware. Peace & Love.
Day 20 of #Recovery: #UnHappyHolidays… these days haven’t been too happy. This is the first holiday season that I’ll spend without #MyFather. I know he’s sad about what’s happening down here. #TheUnitedStatesOfAmerica have been showing us their true colors lately. The lack of #justice being displayed has been a continuous thought since the murder trial of #MikeBrown. It’s like that started a chain reaction of televised “throw it in our face” #injustice. I told myself that I wasn’t going to keep doing pieces about this topic; however, I also said that this series would be daily installments of whatever is on my mind. My thought’s about cops in America is what it always has been, just a little more extreme now. If cops are going to continue to harass, beat, shoot, and kill us for no reason, then we might as well #ShootBack, it’s a “better safe than sorry” situation now. This is our lives, and just because you wear a badge, doesn’t make your life more important than ours. And even more important, it doesn’t give you authorization to take ours. Now most law abiding citizens can’t even #ChristmasShop without having to wonder if they’ll be stopped by an officer to ask, “what’s in the bag?” And before they even get the opportunity to show that it’s a train track for their child, #BANG… they’re shot and killed. #StopKillingUs #BlackLivesMatter #iCantBreathe
