Day 23 of #Recovery: Aye, it’s everyone’s favorite game, #Monotony. A dedication to all of the #Followers, thank you for not being #Leaders, it guarantees my spot in this world. There are so many people in the world who are complacent with the way things are, change isn’t even an idea. It becomes Monkey See, Monkey Do, which is a very sad way to live “your” life. The key word in that last sentence is “your”… It’s yours, so give it your own theme, your own platform, your own meaning. There are presets and templates for life; I refuse to use any of them. I paint my own canvas, and the colors are a custom mix. Create your own colors, or remain monotonous, doesn’t matter either way to me, #clones can be happy too (I guess). I won’t go too deep into this piece… From here, it kinda speaks for itself. Enjoy.

Day 22 of #Recovery: #HappyBirthday #ReddFoxx. Today is the birthday of a legend. He has made all of us laugh. His comedy was so country, raw, and #IDGAF like. I used to love watching #SanfordAndSon just to hear classic lines like “I'm callin' you ugly, I could stick yo face in some dough and make some gorilla cookies.” So today’s piece is a birthday dedication, to the late/great Redd Foxx. If you’re not familiar with any of his material, you owe yourself some research.

Day 18 of #Recovery: Where would I be without #TheHipHopShop? I think about this pretty often. If you know anything about me, then you know my passion for #HipHop. When I was 14 years old, I was lucky enough to get hired at this incredible store (The Hip Hop Shop). I was hired by a guy named Jerome Mongo by a referral from the late/great #BigProof. I then met a #Mogul of #FashionDesign, #MauriceMalone (owner of The Hip Hop Shop). This is what fueled my desire to do design, and just be involved in a progressive scene. Maurice used to draw these little quick sketch characters of people around the store. I was also able to learn a little about fashion design from him, as I would check out in detail his denim sketches and how he would do all measurements, size/color/material callouts, etc. I even had the chance to go by his house on #Detroit’s #Westside and get a few lessons. Proof taught me how to network, and meet/gain clientele. He introduced me to Brother Johnnie Muhammad, who assisted me in getting all of the right tools that I needed to get started with design. Johnnie delivered over $5,000 worth of graphic design software to me, Proof bought me a zip drive and a gang of zip disk… it was go time. I would design flyers for the #OpenMic Saturdays at the shop and mid 90’s #StAndrews shows. Then I went on to designing #MixtapeCovers for local Dj’s and Artist… This was in the #Cassette era. I had the honor of meeting sooo many people, most of which I’m still in contact and close friendship with. I was a 14 year old kid trapped in the amusement of early stage #DetroitHipHop, #Eminem, #SlumVillage, #RoyceThe59, #D12, and the list goes on and on and on… I met #Elzhi there, he ended up going to the same school as me, along with the late #Bugz of D12. This was one of the best eras of my life, and I truly believe that it made me who I am today. #iMissTheHipHopShop.

Day 16 of #Recovery: #JayWalk #ColorOutsideTheLines. Today’s piece sort of has a double meaning as to why I did it. I wanted to do something with shapes and that’s kind of outside of my character as an artist. I believe as an artist, there shouldn’t be any lines. So if I want to do something very in depth one day, and something extremely simple the next, it should be ok… I’m allowed to. We all are allowed to do what we want, to do what we feel. Our only restriction is our own doubt or fear. The other meaning kind of revolves around what’s going on in #America (aka #Amerikkka) today. I kind of feel less and less like abiding by the “systems” rules. I feel like #JayWalking… without the risk of being #shot, #choked, or #beat for it. I feel more and more like having my rights. My rights to be a #human, to be #equal, to be #free, to #express myself… and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. P.S. My surgery incision is healing pretty well.

Day 15 of #Recovery: #Respect Yourself, #Invest in Yourself. This doesn't mean go out buy new outfits & shoes everyday.... Invest in your mind and spirit. Having nice things is always good, though lately I've been trying to think smarter. I could go out and buy a nice new shirt, or I could stay home design a nice new shirt for someone else to buy from me. I'm a full-blooded creative being... I'm constantly thinking about what I could do to enhance myself creatively. Whether it is new equipment, learning new software and #techniques, working on practice pieces, etc. I've never been too big on trends, extensive/expensive fashion, or much of anything outside of #creating. Most of the time, I feel like whatever's out there in the world isn't anything that I couldn't produce on my own. I'm not against supporting brands, I support them often; I'm just more into developing myself into all that I can be. How do you think all of those brands & companies that people support got to where they are? #SelfFocus #Invest

Day 14 of #Recovery: I'm still not 100%, however I have been given the release from my surgeon to go back to #work (my #dayjob). It felt good to go back, it felt good to be #able to go back to work. Today was day one of work & recovery project in the same day, along with all the other little tasks that I take on. I think this piece is pretty cool... it's #simple, it delivers the #message, and that's it. Oh yeah, I think it's cool how the slant of the keyboard gives the #illusion of the frame being crooked. I hope that the post isn't too small to read. Thanks again for all of your support.

Day 11 of #Recovery: #MyFather, Winston David Butterfield was the best man ever invented. He passed on July 1st, 2014... He's now my #GuardianAngel, I feel him everyday. His spirit was with me during my surgery, just to keep and eye on everything and make sure they did everything right. He takes every step and every turn with me. For him, I will be more than ALL I can be, I will be #Magnificent! Daddy, I love you sooo much!!! I wear your necklace everyday, I keep you with me 24/7. You have always been my #Hero, I'm happy that it was you and mom who raised me, Y'all did the most perfect job. #iMissYou #iLoveYou #MyTeacher #MyHero #MyDaddy #Dad #Father

Day 10 of #Recovery: #HappyThanksgiving!!! I'll leave out the stories of #Squanto, slaves, lynching, etc. And focus on the important meaning that our modern world goes by. Today is a day to reflect on things that you're thankful for. The number one thing on my list will always be #God. No matter how tough life gets, I look back and remind myself, at least I have life, and a healthy one at that. There are so many people in this world who are fighting to survive, whether it be on actual life support, or sleeping on a bench in these cold winter days. We have so much to be #thankful for, and I believe that it starts with #Life & #God.

Day 9 of #Recovery: Today I went for my surgery follow up... the doctor say's I'm doing pretty good. My recovery is going well, my spirits are a little less than that, seeing all that's going on with the publication's of our kids being shot and killed. There has to be some kind of #Change that is possible to put in action. #MarvinGaye said it best in one of his lines fom #InnerCItyBlues... "Crime is increasing / Trigger happy policing / Panic is spreading / God knows where, where we're heading" This is the world we live in. #TheyDontCareAboutUs #ItsNothingNew #RacismLives #NoJustice #SadButTrue

Day 8 of #Recovery: We live in a country where it isn't ok for us kill in defense, but it's totally perfect for us to be killed just for not walking on the sidewalk, possessing candy, speaking our mind, and being a minority/middle class. If the outcome of standing your ground, or simply doing act's of defense or innocence will conclude in you being killed, then I say SHOOT BACK, It's the only logical option. The Jim Crow Laws are still so very much alive, the only difference with the modern Jim Crow Laws than the 19th Century laws is they don't have a southern barrier, they're now nation wide. We as US Citizens will NEVER have power in this nation, no matter how much voting, picketing, rioting, or petitions we get signed. They do what they want. They kill who they want. They get away with it all. #TheyDontCareAboutUs #ItsNothingNew #RacismLives #NoJustice #SadButTrue
